Maker: John & George Alcock (J & G Alcock)

Origin: Staffordshire Potteries, England

Era: Early Victorian (c. 1840s)

Pattern: "Scinde" – an Oriental-style design with willows, flowers, and temples, inspired by Chinese porcelain

Type: Flow blue earthenware (also called Oriental Stone), known for its blurred cobalt glaze that "flowed" during firing

These medium J & G Alcock "Scinde" flow blue plates were produced in Staffordshire, England around the 1840s by the John & George Alcock company (active 1839–1846). The "Scinde" pattern features an Asian-inspired scene with willows, temples, and floral details, reflecting the Victorian fascination with Oriental designs and named after the Scinde province in India.

Perfect for decorative display, these plates can be showcased in a china cabinet, on a easel, on a kitchen or entryway table as a catchall, used as a plant plate, or incorporated into a gallery plate wall. With so many creative uses, they add a unique type of art and detail to any space. Due to their age and natural crazing, these plates are intended for decoration only and are not recommended for dining.

Details:

  • All plates have some slight scratches due to use and age
